JVNA, a singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, create electronic pop with a melodic bass edge, playing with the duality of light and dark.
JVNA began studying classical piano at the age of six and went to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to study film and video game scoring. JVNA began making electronic music with a future bass sound in mind, eventually stumbling across viral hits with game and anime remixes.
With the release of “I’m With You” in 2018, JVNA’s fan base grew even more. The combination of hard-hitting brutality and sparkling softness, inspired by her father’s death, expressed the confusion of grief mingled with cherished recollections. JVNA directed the music video for the song for the first time in her career.
The explosive follow-up “Catch Me” kept the pace going. The bright and hard-hitting chorus, set against vulnerable words, was a success with fans. JVNA embarked on a sold-out tour across the United States supporting the song, but when venues were forced to close due to the epidemic, the band returned to the studio. The first taste of the procedure is “At Least It Was Fun.” The crisp piano stabs, and almost-whispered vocals depict the story of a person who finds peace after a difficult situation.
It has all of the hallmarks of JVNA’s unique style, and it builds on 2019’s “First Storm,” but it’s only the beginning. In 2021, JVNA will release an entire album with new material. It’s a risky piece that combines pop, rock, and melodic bass with raw and emotional lyrics.
