Julia Jacklin is an Australian singer and songwriter born in Blue Mountains, New South Wales. At age ten, she began classical singing lessons after being inspired by Britney Spears. She then joined a high school band that covered Avril Lavigne and Evanescence. After graduating from Sydney University with a degree in social policy, she moved into a garage in the Sydney neighborhood of Glebe and began working in an essential oil plant.
Jacklin's debut songs, "Pool Party" and "Coming of Age," were played on BBC Radio 6 Music, attracting listeners and critical acclaim. She started her 2016 world tour in March, playing festivals worldwide (including the End of the Road Festival, Electric Picnic, and South by Southwest). She has shared the stage with First Aid Kit, Whitney, Marlon Williams, and Okkervil River, among others, and has headlined her shows.
Jacklin was nominated for a J Award for Unearthed Artist of the Year by Triple J and named one of Rolling Stone Australia's "Future Is Now" musicians for 2016. Before Jacklin began touring heavily in August 2016, she maintained another employment but only considered herself a part-time artist. Don't Let The Kids Win, her first studio album, was released by Transgressive Records in October 2016.
