Joshua Roman Information
Joshua Roman is an American cellist born in Oklahoma and attended the Cleveland Institute of Music. Roman studied with Desmond Hoebig and Richard Aaron at the University. He earned a degree of Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance in 2004. In 2005, he earned a master’s degree as well. In 2006, while Roman was 22, he was appointed as principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, becoming the youngest principal player in the history of the Seattle Symphony.
Roman’s premiere performance was called an “auspicious beginning” by Seattle Post-Intelligencer, in 2006. Melinda Bargreen of Seattle noted in 2007 that Roman played with heart-stopping beauty. Roman eventually decided to start his solo career, and as a result, he submitted his resignation as principal cellist after the 2007-2008 season.
Joshua Roman has won several notable prizes at different competitions such as Buttram, Cleveland Cello Society, CIM, Kingsville, Corpus Christi, H-A Music Society, NFMC, Stulberg, Washington, ASTA, and the Klein. Roman has also performed as a member of the Cleveland Orchestra. He has performed as a solo cellist with several chambers and symphony orchestras, including Symphony of Southern New Jersey, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Wyoming Symphony, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra.
