Josh Abbott Band is a Texas country band from Lubbock. The members are Austin Davis on banjo, Preston Wait on fiddle, guitar, and steel, Edward Villanueva on drums, Caleb Keeter on guitar, David Fralin on keys and mandolin, and Jimmy Hartman on bass guitar and backup vocals.
The band was started in 2006 in Lubbock, Texas, by Josh Abbott, a member of the Texas Epsilon chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Texas Tech University. In graduate school, he formed the band with Andrew Hurt, Neel Huey, and Austin Davis, all of whom were fraternity mates.
Her 2010 sophomore effort, She's Like Texas, debuted on Billboard's Top Country Albums list. In his review, Allmusic's Michael Berick gave it four stars, drawing comparisons to Steve Earle and praising Abbott's "maturity" as a songwriter.
Radio stations began playing the song "Wasn't That Drunk" by Josh Abbott Band and Carly Pearce on March 21, 2016. National radio and media outlets took notice of "Wasn't That Drunk," Front Row Seat's second song. Jimmy Kimmel Live! Played the song on May 31, 2016, and CONAN played "Amnesia" on January 18, 2017, marking the band's first appearance on national television.
A string and horn section were used on Josh Abbott Band's fifth album, "Until My Voice Goes Out," released on August 18, 2017. The string and horn sections were also included as part of the "Until My Voice Goes Out" tour around the country.
