Johnny Rivers Information
Johnny Rivers (November 7, 1942) is an American record producer, singer, musician, and songwriter. He was born in New York City. He moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he got influenced by the Louisiana musical style. Rivers was just eight years old when he began playing guitar. His uncle and father taught him how to play the guitar. He was taking junior classes when he started to play in a band called the Rockets, which was led by Dick Holler. He is also the writer of several hit songs such as Snoopy vs. the Red Baron and Abraham, Martin, and John.
At the age of 14, Rivers formed his first band called “The Spades” and made his first record. At that time, he was also studying at Baton Rouge High School. The early songs by the band were recorded on the Suede label. In 1958, Rivers went on a trip to New York City, where he met Alan Freed. He advised him to change his name from Johnny Henry Ramistella to Johnny Rivers. Freed cooperated with him to a greater extent and helped him gain recording contracts from the Gone label.
Rivers’ successful albums from the 1960s include; In Action (August 1964), which was his debut album. Other albums include Johnny Rivers Rocks the Folk (September 1965), Changes (1966), Rewind (1967), and Realization (1968). Some of his live albums are At the Whisky a Go Go (February 1964), Meanwhile; Back at the Whisky a Go Go (August 1965), Last Boogie in Paris (1974), and several other albums.
