John Berry Information
John Edward Berry (September 14, 1959) is an American country music singer and songwriter from Aiken, South Carolina. He grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area and was exposed to a wide variety of music at an early age. Berry began learning the guitar at the age of 12 and has shared his early influences: Harry Chapin, James Taylor, and, his favorite, John Denver. In 1979, he began recording albums at home that featured soul, gospel, and country music. In 1981, he was hit by a car while riding a bike. This accident broke both of his legs along with his left hip. Luckily, he was able to recover after spending several months in physical therapy.
Berry started performing solo acoustic shows in 1983 across northeast Georgia. He created six self-produced albums, and the last one sold over 10,000 copies. He finally was signed to Liberty Records in 1992 and received high praise from former President George H.W. Bush and his wife for performing at his birthday party. In 1994, a cyst was found in his brain's third ventricle in Atlanta. He underwent brain surgery and celebrated his first number 1 single, "Your Love Amazes Me," on the same day.
Some of his other notable studio albums are Tired of the Game (1984), Standing on the Edge (1995), Hits (2006), Christmas Live in Kalamazoo (2010), Real Man. Real Life. Real God. (2012), and What I Love the Most (2016).
