Joey Dosik Information
Joey Dosik is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. He is currently based in Los Angeles, California. Dosik was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He began playing the piano at a young age. He began playing the saxophone as a teen and was captivated by jazz and soul music. He performed in the Los Angeles Leimert Park music scene, influenced by alto saxophonist Arthur Blythe, which changed his musical and cultural viewpoint on jazz. He played with famous bassist Henry Grimes there. At the University of Michigan, he studied jazz and contemplative studies. He was a member of the Ann Arbor-based band Ella Riot in college.
Dosik moved back to Los Angeles in 2009 and focused on singing and songwriting. Musical inspirations include Carole King, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye. He released his first solo EP, Where Do They Come From?, in 2012, and a second EP, Game Winner, in 2016. He started as a solo artist and as a funk band, Vulfpeck. Leon Bridges and Quincy Jones have both praised his solo work.
In 2018, he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and released Inside Voice, his first full-length album. The music was described as pop-soul in an album review. Moses Sumney and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson both contributed to the album. He released the song "23 Teardrops" on May 18, 2020. He performs with Vulfpeck regularly and has contributed to several of their albums.
