Jimmy Webb Information
Jimmy Layne Webb (August 15, 1946) is an American singer, composer, and songwriter born in Elk City, Oklahoma. During the late 1950s, Webb began to apply his creativity to the music while playing at his father’s church. At that time, he had started to write religious songs. Soon, his music influence was turned towards the new and modern music played on the radio, including the music of Elvis Presley. Webb’s first record was at the age of 14 in 1961 when he recorded “Turn Around, Look at Me” by Glen Campbell.
Webb used to transcribe music for other music publishers in Hollywood early on in his music career. After a few years, he was signed to a songwriting contract with Jobete Music, a Motown Records publishing arm. It was also known as the commercial recording of a Jimmy Webb song entitled “My Christmas Tree” by The Supremes.
In 1968, Webb released his debut album, “Jim Webb Sings Jim Webb.” The album was released on Epic Records. Beginning in 1970, Webb also released six original albums of his songs, including Angel Heart (1982), El Mirage (1977), Land’s End (1974), Letters (1972), And So: On (1971), and Words and Music (1970).
Webb has worked with several record labels throughout his career, including Epic Records, Elektra Records, Columbia Records, Asylum Records, and Reprise Records. His other albums include Suspending Disbelief (1993), Twilight of the Renegades (2005), and Live and at Large (2007).
