Jill Sobule Information
Jill Sobule (January 16, 1961) is an American singer and songwriter. She was born in Denver, Colorado. Sobule has published a total of ten albums so far: eight full-length albums of original material, four extended plays, and a greatest hits album. Sobule has released several original songs that can be found on her website, a cover of Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family" and a rendition of "Don't Let Us Get Sick" by the late Warren Zevon.
In 1990, Sobule released his first studio album; Things Here Are Different. The album flopped commercially despite being produced by the legendary pop musician Todd Rundgren. Even though British New Wave rocker Joe Jackson (for whom she opened in 1991) had produced a follow-up album, Sobule was sacked from her label, and the album was never released. It took Sobule five years to sign another recording deal after her last one expired.
Sobule joined the ranks of successful mid-'90s female singer-songwriters like Lisa Loeb, Juliana Hatfield, and Alanis Morissette after the release of her self-titled album in 1995. The album included "I Kissed a Girl," Sobule's most well-known piece, a story-song about a lesbian flirtation between two suburban girlfriends that became an unanticipated radio success in part due to a comical music video featuring model Fabio.
