Jeffrey Steele Information
Jeffrey LeVasseur (August 27, 1961) is an American country music singer and songwriter born in Burbank, California. LeVasseur is professionally known as Jeffrey Steele. He is a prolific Nashville songwriter who has co-written more than 60 hit songs for several artists. Some of the notable ones are Billy Ray Cyrus, Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Montgomery Gentry. Steele first gained interest in music when he was eight, as his mother was also a singer. His first performance was at a church function where he sang “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Nights.
As Steele’s career started to progress, he shifted his focus towards songwriting. At 17, he began to perform with local groups. He played keyboards at various gigs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. He later changed his last name to Steele after his father’s death to pay tribute to him as he used to process steel for a living.
In 1994, Steele relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, and released three solo singles along with a self-titled solo album. He signed a songwriting contract and began writing songs for different artists. As a songwriter, his biggest hits to date are “Big Deal” by LeAnn Rimes, “Unbelievable” by Diamond Rio, and “If You Love Somebody” by Kevin Sharp. He was honored by The Country Music Hall of Fame in September 2008 as a Poet & Prophet in the Hall of Fame’s quarterly series. He was nominated for the 1996 Grammy Awards for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
