Jeff Daniels Information
Jeffrey Warren Daniels (February 19, 1955) is an American musician, actor, and playwright from Athens, Georgia, and grew up in Chelsea, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan University for a brief period and participated in the school's theatre program while in attendance there. Later, in the summer of 1976, he attended the Eastern Michigan University drama school. Daniels participated in a special Bicentennial Repertory program and performed in The Hot l Baltimore.
In 1979, Daniels performed in New York in The Shortchanged Review that took place at Second Stage Theatre. Daniels starred in several New York productions, on and off-Broadway, during the mid-1970s through to the early 1990s. He appeared in Lanford Wilson's Fifth of July 1980 beside William Hurt. For this appearance, Daniels was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1981, Daniels made his screen debut in Miloš Forman's Ragtime. He also appeared in A. R. Gurney's The Golden Age (1984), Wilson's Redwood Curtain (1993), Harrower's Blackbird, and many more.
Some of the notable films which starred Daniel are The Purple Rose of Cairo, Something Wild, The House on Carroll Street, Sweet Hearts Dance, Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael, There Goes the Neighborhood, Rain Without Thunder, 2 Days in the Valley, My Favorite Martian, and Escanaba in da Moonlight.
He has starred in countless television shows such as Hawaii Five-O, A Rumor of War, American Playhouse, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, No Place Like Home, Teamster Boss: The Jackie Presser Story, and Sweet Nothing in My Ear.
Daniels founded the Purple Rose Theatre Company in 1991, a nonprofit stage company in Chelsea, Michigan. He is the winner of the 2013 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Primetime Emmy Award in 2018, and has also received countless nominations.
