Jose Angel Lopez Martinez (April 25, 1994) is a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter. He is professionally known as Jay Wheeler born in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Wheeler gained the moniker "La Voz Favorita" (The Favourite Voice) because he leveraged his growing fan base to keep releasing music on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
In subsequent years, he decided to perform under the stage name Jay Wheeler. He had his followers vote on a name to go with "Jay," he thought "Jay Wheeler, La Voz Favorita" sounded the most natural. Dynamic Records took notice of Wheeler after his consistent output from 2016–2018 and offered him his first record deal.
Wheeler was approached by DJ Nelson, who volunteered to coach him when a video of him breaking down on stage in tears at the sight of his fans chanting his music went viral in 2018. Not long after that, Wheeler started working on Platónicos, the follow-up album to his debut. Album producer DJ Nelson was at it again in 2020 with this one, which featured Myke Towers' smash hit "La Curiosidad" that reached number five on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart.
