Javier Colon Information
Javier Colón is an American musician, singer, and songwriter from Stratford, Connecticut. He attended Frank Scott Bunnell High School and began writing songs during this time. Later on, he pursued a degree in music education from the University of Hartford's Hartt School, and during his university, Javier also performed as vocalist and percussionist in EmcQ. This was a soul/funk band that was mainly dedicated to the legacy of Stevie Wonder, and led by lead guitarist Ian McHugh.
Javier Colón began his musical career when EmcQ opened a show for the soul-jazz trio Soulive where guitarist Eric Krasno was highly impressed by Colón's vocals. He connected Colón with his friend Derek Trucks, who was looking for a lead vocalist. After his college graduation, he auditioned successfully in July 2000 and joined the band in August 2000, where he toured with them for two years before leaving.
Colón began his solo career in 2002 and signed a contract with Capitol Records. He released two albums under this label; the first one was self-titled in 2003, and the second was entitled Left of Center in 2006. Throughout his career, Colón has performed with diverse acts such as the Indigo Girls, Stevie Nicks, Adam Levine, Joss Stone, Darius Rucker, and Anthony Hamilton.
Some of his other notable albums as a solo artist are Come Through for You and Gravity. His two extended plays are The Truth – Acoustic EP 2010 and A Very Acoustic Christmas 2011.
