James Smith (October 28, 1988), best known as the award-winning electronica, house, and dubstep artist/producer Jamie xx, was born in London, England. Apart from his solo records and albums with The xx, he is most recognized for his remixes and production. His career started in 2005 when he founded The xx alongside fellow Elliot School friends in London. 2009 saw him start going under the Jamie xx identity while remixing songs from the xx's debut album.
Released in the summer of 2009, The xx's self-titled first album was an instant smash, ranking Top 40 in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and France. Their 2012 album Coexist flew to the top of the charts in the UK, Belgium, New Zealand, and Switzerland. The third album, I See You (2017), matched Coexist's popularity.
Jamie xx's first solo album, In Colour, was released in 2015 and peaked at No.1 on the UK Indie Chart. He has remixed Florence + the Machine, Adele, Radiohead, Eliza Doolittle, and Four Tet. Over the years, his work has been acknowledged with several music nominations and victories, including accolades from The Music Producers Guild Awards, Elle Style Awards, UK Music Video Awards, and many others.
