Oakland-based producer and songwriter Michael Bridgmon discovered his passion for music as a young man when he sang in Gospel choirs at church. Bridgmon embodies a varied nature of execution by combining the honeyed vocals of Sam Cooke with the exploratory patterns of Hendrix to create a sound that will stand the test of time.
He performs under the name "James Wavey," which has earned him recognition from outlets like NPR and Creative Loafing. With six CDs, including three on vinyl, "Alleyes Manifest" displays a wide range of work in the studio. While Bridgmon is always pushing the boundaries of his music, his trippy and soulful upbringing remains ever-present.
Bridgmon has always been able to switch between different styles comfortably. With the help of James Wavey, Bridgmon has reissued his 2018 album on vinyl. For three reasons, this seems like a good idea even now, two years later. First, the work's timeless quality encourages taking risks with familiar forms. Second, the last year has seen vinyl emerge from the depths, making even 7" single releases by huge pop singers like Five Seconds of Summer and Taylor Swift feel essential rather than quirky.
