Jake Shimabukuro Information
Jake Shimabukuro (November 3, 1976) is a Hawaii-based ukulele virtuoso and songwriter recognized for his quick and intricate fingerwork. The blues, jazz, funk, rock, bluegrass, folk, classical, and flamenco all find their way into his music. Aside from his many original pieces, Shimabukuro composed scores for two Japanese films: Hula Girls (2007) and Sideways (2009), the latter of which is a remake of the former.
In 2006, a video of Shimabukuro playing a virtuosic rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on YouTube without his consent became one of the first viral videos on the site. He was already well-known in Hawaii and Japan during the early 2000s. His concert appearances, collaborations with famous musicians, media appearances, and music creation have grown since then.
Music Theories Recordings published the album Trio by Shimabukuro on February 14, 2020. Upon its release, it reached the top spot on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Albums list. Delays in the release of Jake & Friends, Shimabukuro's most recent studio effort, were announced in the same year. With guest appearances from Bette Midler, Warren Haynes, and others, the whole album debuted on November 12, 2021.
