Indiana State Fair Information
The Indiana State Fair is an American annual fair that takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is usually held in August. The inaugural fair was held in October 1852, and since then, it has been happening almost every year. The buildings and grounds of the state fair are used for various other shows when there is no fair held. Indiana Farmers Coliseum is the largest building at the fairgrounds.
Because of World War I (1917-1918) and World War II (1942-1944), the state fair could not occur. Another incident happened during the state fair on August 13, 2011, when a strong thunderstorm approached that collapsed the roof over the grandstand stage. The incident happened just before Sugarland was about to perform.
The Indiana State Fair has the Midway area, providing amusement park rides and games to fair-goers. So many globally recognized artists have performed at the Indiana State Fair so far. The Beatles performed two sold-out shows to around 30,000 people in 1964. New Kids on the Block also set a Grandstand attendance record in 1989 with 18,509 audience members.
Several big names have been to the Indiana State Fair, such as President Woodrow Wilson visited the fair in 1919. He also has a speech to an audience of around 40,000. That day was known as “Big Thursday.” Other big names include President George W. Bush, President Donald Trump, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, President Bill Clinton, President Barack Obama, and President John F. Kennedy.
