Illinoise Information
Illinoise is a dance revue musical set to premiere in 2023. Justin Peck and Jackie Sibblies Drury wrote the original plot, while Sufjan Stevens composed the music and lyrics. Stevens' 2005 album Illinoise inspired the musical. In the musical, friends gather around a campfire to reminisce about their youth and time in Illinois.
Peck directed and choreographed the musical, which debuted on Broadway in April 2024 at the St. James Theatre following a summer festival premiere, a regional production, and an off-Broadway trial. Illinoise received four Tony Award nominations, including one for Peck's choreography, and received mostly excellent reviews upon its Broadway debut.
On April 24, 2024, the show moved to Broadway's St. James Theatre. Set design by Adam Rigg, lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker, and costumes by Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung are all part of the production directed and choreographed by Peck. Peck took home a Tony for best choreography, one of four nominations for the show at the 77th Tonys, which also included best musical.
