Henry Jamison, a singer-songwriter from Vermont, has a literary and musical pedigree that informs his brand of introspective, cerebral indie folk. The New Englander released several successful singles and indie albums, including 2017's The Wilds and 2019's Gloria Duplex, in the latter half of the 2010s. Jamison was raised in a musical household in Burlington.
One of his forebears is the well-known Civil War era lyricist George Frederick Root, and his father is a classical composer. Jamison began demoing a few solo songs on an old Korg 8-track recording his father gave him after he had spent time in college, folk choruses, and other bands. After some fine-tuning, his demos became the EP The Rains, released in 2016; it was a cozy collection that fused folk guitar, lyrical reflection, and subtle electronic flourishes.
In early 2017, Jamison released a new original song titled "The Jacket," along with a cover of Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind." His debut album, The Wilds, came out in October of that year, and a string quartet EP featuring three songs from the album followed in early 2018. Jamison released introspective singles over the first half of 2019, including "Gloria" and "Boys," which ended up on his sophomore album Gloria Duplex.
