American singer-songwriter-producer Heather Mae utilizes his music and writing to advocate for social justice and foster a sense of community. Because it is so difficult to exist in a world like ours, he refers to his followers as "wonderful beings."
He was informed that vocal nodules would prevent him from ever being able to sing again. Instead of having surgery, he went eight months without speaking, then underwent rigorous vocal training to regain his voice. Mae decided to make social justice problems the focus of his life, career, music, and voice.
I AM ENOUGH, an EP by Mae, was released in 2016. His first full-length album, GLIMMER, a collection of 9 songs with a single theme—mental health—was published in 2019. He has Bipolar Disorder and a plethora of other mental health problems. Still, Mae recognized that by talking about it, he was doing more than just eradicating stigma—he was saving lives. He performed in front of packed houses during two US album release tours.
