Head For The Hills Information
Head for the Hills is an American string band from Fort Collins, Colorado. The current lineup of the group consists of Adam Kinghorn (guitar and vocals), Joe Lessard (violin, octave violin, and vocals), Matt Loewen (upright bass, clarinet, and vocals), and Sam Parks (mandolin, violin, guitar, and vocals). The band was formed in 2003. Their music style is described as progressive bluegrass, but the group also explores Americana to hip-hop, indie rock, and jazz.
Loewen, Lessard, Kinghorn, and Mike Chappell are the founding members of the Head for the Hills. They formed the band during their freshman year of college at Colorado State University. Throughout 2003 and 2004, the group played small local venues and house parties in the Front Range of Colorado. In February 2004, the group played its first official show at Higher Ground Café in Golden, Colorado. They went on their first-ever out-of-state tour to the Midwest in 2005.
In the same year, Head for the Hills also played its inaugural season-opening show near Fort Collins, Colorado, at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre. The group released its debut studio album entitled “Robber’s Roost” in 2007, produced by Sally Van Meter.
Head for the Hills won the Northwest String Summit band competition at Horning’s Hideout, an acoustic music festival outside Portland, Oregon. The band played in several other festivals such as FloydFest, Mulberry Mountain Harvest Music Festival, RockyGrass, Summer Camp Music Festival, SXSW, and High Sierra Music Festival.
