Hannah Alicia Smith (June 19, 1986) is a British house producer and music DJ born in Birmingham, England. She is known by her stage name, Hannah Wants. When she was 16 years old, she went to her first rave in 2002 and knew then that she wanted to be a DJ. DJ EZ's mixing was an influence on her, too. She began honing her skills by herself, listening to speed garage, bassline house, and Classic UK Garage. At age 18, she was already performing in bars and spent two summers in Ibiza honing her DJ skills.
While at Wolverhampton University, she majored in sports studies. DJ Wants been spinning records since 2002, when he first spun speed garage and later bass-influenced house, fusing new and old sounds. She had been playing open mics for three years before she got her first paying gig. In 2010, while on a school holiday, she was requested to replace a DJ as the headliner at the Es Paradis club in Ibiza. After winning several contests at the Viva! workers' bar in Ibiza, she finally landed her first gig at a superclub.
She got her first residency at Birmingham's Rainbow Warehouse after doing this performance, which led to other bookings all around England. Wants began producing and releasing mixtapes on SoundCloud twice a month in 2010. Chris Lorenzo of Cause & Affect was a co-producer on her earlier work. Their cover of "Touch It" by Busta Rhymes, from 2006, served as inspiration for their single "Rhymes," which peaked at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart in February 2015.
