American DIY singer-songwriter Hana Vu (2000) hails from Los Angeles, California. At 14, Vu began performing around L.A. after opening for bands like Soccer Mommy and Wet, which he had been opening for since he was a child and still creating songs. When she was 17, she released her self-produced debut E.P., How Many Times Have You Driven By (2018), after years of sharing songs on SoundCloud and Bandcamp. The Luminelle Recordings label, a division of Fat Possum, issued it. She had previously worked with Willow Smith on the song "Queen of High School," released before the E.P.
Vu honored her two favorite actresses with the 2019 release of a double E.P. titled Nicole Kidman / Anne Hathaway. Anne Hathaway is featured on the E.P. cover in a painting by Vu, which she warped to resemble molten plastic. The next year, she was named one of The NME 100: Essential new artists for 2019 for "tearing up diary scribbles and mangling them into a scrunch of daydreaming indie rock." Vu has been a resident of the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles since she moved out after finishing high school.
