Hackensaw Boys Information
The Hackensaw Boys are a string band founded in 1999 and originated from Charlottesville, Virginia. The group’s music is folk, adult contemporary, Americana, old-time, country, and alternative. The current lineup consists of Caleb Powers (fiddle), David Sickmen (guitar), Beau Dodson (drums/percussion), and Chris Stevens (Bass). There is a long list of former members that played in the Hackensaw Boys, including Brian Gorby (drums/percussion), Shawn Galbraith (banjo), and Rob Bullington (mandolin/guitar).
The band was formerly known as “The Dirty Bird.” During their initial years, the group took part in the Unlimited Sunshine Tour. Some of the 2002 tour included the following headliners: The Flaming Lips, Cake, Modest Mouse, and Kinky. Apart from extensive touring, the boys also made notable appearances at the All Good Music Festival (2004 and 2006), Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado (2003), the Bonnaroo Music Festival (2003 and 2004), along with some appearances at European music festivals; Pukkelpop in Belgium (2005).
Get Some (2000) was the first LP released by the Hackensaw Boys. Some other notable albums by the band include Keep It Simple (2002), Give It Back (2004), Love What You Do (2005), Look Out! (2007), For The Love Of A Friend. Live in Kinderdijk (2012), and Charismo (2016). The group also released a few EPs such as The Old Sound Of Music, Vol. 1 (2011) and A Fireproof House of Sunshine (2019). The Hackensaw Boys were nominated for the Independent Country Music Awards and appeared on National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition in 2005 and 2016.
