Graham Parker Information
Graham Parker (November 18, 1950) is an English songwriter and singer. He is best known as the lead singer of the British band named Graham Parker & the Rumour. Parker was born in Hackney, East London, and received his early education in Surrey at Chobham Secondary School. Parker became a fan of soul music at the age of 15. At the age of 18, he moved to Guernsey, bought an acoustic guitar, began learning a fingerpicking style, and writing songs with his lyrics. His lyrics were highly influenced by the psychedelic music of the time.
Parker has worked with several record labels throughout his career including Arista, Bloodshot, Buy or Die, Capitol Records, Dakota Arts, Demon, Elektra, Hannibal, Hip-O, Mercury Records, Razor & Tie, RCA Records, Rebound, Rock the House Entertainment Group, UpYours, Vertigo Canada & UK, and Windsong UK. Parker released his first album entitled “Howlin’ Wind” that also included his demo song “Between You and Me.”
Parker has released a few notable live albums throughout his career including Live at Marble Arch (1976), At The Palladium, New York (1977), The Parkerilla (1978), Live Sparks (1979), Live in San Francisco (1979), Live Alone at the Freight And Salvage (2012), and Official Bootleg Box (2014).
Throughout Graham Parker’s remarkable career he has also released many popular studio albums over time with his band Graham Parker & The Rumour such as Heat Treatment (1976), Squeezing Out Sparks (1979), Another Grey Area (1982), The Mona Lisa’s Sister (1988), and countless others.
