Running Back is a German record label co-founded by Gerd Janson and Thorsten Scheu (aka Glance). Gerd Janson frequented the famous Milk Club in Mannheim during his formative years, as did many other children of the South West of Germany. While this club gained notoriety for introducing jungle to Germany, Gerd looked forward to the early morning hours when the crowd thinned out and the US-style house took center stage. In the years that followed, Heiko MSO and Ata at Frankfurt's Wild Pitch Club stoked his flame for house and disco. Gerd Janson's first DJ residency was in 1998 at Café Kesselhaus in Darmstadt.
Together with DJ juggernaut Thomas Hammann, Gerd Janson has been presenting the Liquid club evenings at Frankfurt's Robert Johnson, dishing out the latest house and disco cuts, for the past few years. Gerd Janson is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most exciting new DJs in Germany. His reputation as a DJ has grown, and he now performs frequently in other cities. And when he's not behind the turntables, he's busy writing about music for publications like Groove and Spex, helping out at the Pentagon Recordstore in his native Darmstadt, or instructing at the Red Bull Music Academy. The last few years have seen him release a compilation of bizarre 80s jams with Jazzanova on Sonar Kollektiv and begin producing awful remixes for groups like Antena and DJ Designer Imposter.
