Gatlin Brothers Information
Larry Wayne Gatlin (May 2, 1948) is an American Southern gospel and country singer and songwriter born in Seminole, Texas. From a young age, he has shared the stage with his brothers Rudy and Steve. When they were younger, they and their sister LaDonna would frequently sing in church and even appear on local TV and radio programs. They won a local talent contest and made an album of gospel music for the Sword & Shield label. Roy Orbison was also one of their competitors.
It was in 1979 that Gatlin chose to formally have his siblings billed as Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin siblings when he signed with Columbia Records. Their album Straight Ahead was released in October. "All the Gold in California" was born from it and became their biggest hit as a duo, topping the Hot Country Songs chart. Gatlin received the Top Male Vocalist of the Year award from the Academy of Country Music for this, his second number-one single. Straight Ahead was awarded gold on June 6, 1980.
After performing together for over a decade, the Gatlin Brothers retired to their Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, theater in December 1992 after a farewell tour. On Broadway, Gatlin was a star in The Will Rogers Follies. Gatlin has been a political and social pundit for Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network since 2010.
Gatlin became host for Don Imus on Imus in the Morning in 2010 and Spencer Hughes on Fox Across America on March 16, 2011. His other radio programs for WSM include Opry Country Classics, a spinoff of the Grand Ole Opry, and a weekly gospel program.
