Gary Myrick Information
Gary Myrick is an American songwriter, guitarist, and singer born in Dallas, Texas. He played guitar and sang songs in Dallas and Fort Worth, where he started playing as a teenager. Myrick worked hard and built his reputation and was eventually asked to join a band based in Austin, Texas, called “Krackerjack.”
After some time, Myrick relocated himself to Los Angeles, California, where he formed Gary Myrick & the Figures. He also released a self-titled album in 1980. The album included a hit single entitled “She Talks In Stereo.” After spending time with the band, he released an LP entitled “Living in a Movie” in 1981. In 1983, the band released an extended play named “Language” that featured the percussive single entitled “Guitar, Talk, Love & Drums.” Another MTV hit, “Message is You,” was also featured in that EP.
Myrick then took a small break from his solo projects and began writing songs and playing guitar in the band called No Brakes of John Waite. Throughout his musical career, Myrick has worked with Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Bonnie Raitt, Queen Ida, Wilson Pickett, Steve Jones, The Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Big Audio Dynamite. His notable albums include Stand for Love (1985), Havana 3 am (1991), Texas Glitter and Tombstone Tales (1996), Waltz of the Scarecrow King (2001), Reinvent the Gods (2004), Guitarrista (2013), and Gary Myrick’s Bluestrash (2015).
