Galactic Information
Galactic is a jam band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally formed in 1994 as an octet (then known as Galactic Prophylactic) featuring guitarist Rob Gowen and vocalist Chris Lane, the group quickly shrank to a sextet consisting of guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, vocalist Theryl DeClouet, and saxophonist Ben Ellman.
When childhood friends Raines and Mercurio—who had previously lived in wealthy Chevy Chase, Maryland—moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane and Loyola Universities, they became enamored with the local funk scene. They were inspired by local legends like Professor Longhair and surrounded by legendary acts like The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band, which led them to form the group.
Rock, funk, brass band, blues, jazz, hip hop, electronic, and world music are just a few of the genres that have influenced the band, leading to its distinctive sound. Guests from all around the musical spectrum lend their talents to several of their tunes.
Tchoup-Zilla Records released Galactic's most recent studio album, Already Ready Already, on February 8, 2019. This is the band's tenth studio album, produced by Robert Mercurio and Ben Ellman of Galactic. Guests on the album include Nahko, Boyfriend, David Shaw (of The Revivalists), Princess Shaw, Erica Falls, and Miss Charm Taylor.
Released on February 7, 2020, "Float Up" is Galactic's latest song. Anjelika Jelly Joseph is featured in this song.
