Front 242 is an electronic music group from Belgian who came into prominence during the 1980s. The band is known as the pioneer of a style called electronic body music. They were also a profound influence on the industrial and electronic music genres. Front 242 was formed in Aarschot in 1981 by founders Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen. The current lineup of the group consists of Jean-Luc De Meyer (lyrics and lead vocals), Daniel Bressanutti (mixing console, programming, and live mixing), Patrick Codenys (samplers, programming, keyboards), Richard Jonckheere (“Richard 23”) (electronic percussion and backing vocals), and Tim Kroker (electronic drums as well as guest drummer for live shows).
Front 242 became a popular musical group throughout Belgium with the band’s first album entitled “Geography,” which was released in 1982. Their next album, “No Comment,” was released later in 1984. The band signed with the Wax Trax! the record label in the same year they released the second album. Right after signing their record deal, Front 242 went on to their first tour in the United States along with Ministry.
Front 242 released “Front by Front” in 1988, and that same year in December, their song “Headhunter” became the first club hit for the band, reaching number 13 on the US Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs chart. The band’s all-time favorite albums that they released to date include Official Version (1987), Tyranny (For You) (1991), 06:21:03:11 Up Evil (1993), 05:22:02:12 Off (1993), and Pulse (2003). The group has worked with several record labels, including Another Side, Red Rhino Europe, Animalized, Wax Trax!, Epic, XIII Bis Records, and Alfa Matrix.
