Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Information
The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra (FWSO) is the foremost symphony orchestra based in Fort Worth, Texas. Nancy Lee & Perry R. Bass Performance Hall is the residencies for this orchestra. The FWSO also collaborates with the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Southwestern Seminary Master Chorale, and Forth Worth Opera. Concerts In The Garden is a summer music festival that takes place at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. FWSO is an organizing partner for this festival.
FWSO officially performed in front of the public in 1912. During World War I, the band disbanded in 1917. Later in 1925, the FWSO was re-established by Brooks Morris. He served as the first conductor and the music director for the orchestra. They presented their earliest concerts in the Will Rogers Auditorium but got disbanded again in 1943. This time it was due to World War II. Morris didn’t give up, and he revived the FWSO once again.
FWSO moved to their current home, the Maddox Muse Center, in 2001. In 1972, John Giordano became the music director of the orchestra. He held this position until 2000. He is also known as the longest-serving music director in the history of FWSO. Music directors who have worked with FWSO so far include Robert Hull, Rudolph Kruger, Ralph R. Guenther, Ezra Rachlin, Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The orchestra has been through different deficits over time.
