Throughout his career, Cash released over seventy albums. He is now among the best-selling musicians ever, with over 90 million CDs sold globally. Among Cash's extensive discography, a landmark release was the live performance he recorded at Folsom State Prison in California.
Cash had always wanted to perform live from Folsom Prison Blues, an early single by him, because of the song's success. The album became a legendary classic despite resistance from his record label. The album's live rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues" peaked at number forty on the charts.
The album has been certified triple platinum and re-released with new tracks and bonus features. For decades afterward, Cash's career was strengthened by the album's popularity.
Cash also released two prison concert CDs, At San Quentin and A Concert Behind Prison Walls, after At Folsom Prison, which was a turning point in his career. The Folsom Prison concert and that turning point in Cash's life are included in the 2005 film Walk the Line.
