Flotsam and Jetsam Information
Flotsam and Jetsam are a thrash metal band that was founded in 1981, Phoenix, Arizona. The band was formerly known as Paradox (1981–1982), Dredlox (1982–1983), and Dogz (1983–1984). The group was initially founded by guitarists Pete Mello and Dave Goulder and drummer Kelly David-Smith. Bassist Jason Newsted later joined them. The current lineup of Flotsam and Jetsam consists of Eric "A.K." Knutson – vocals; Michael Gilbert – guitars; Michael Spencer – bass; Steve Conley – guitars; and Ken Mary – drums.
At the start, Flotsam and Jetsam made their live debuts in local clubs. The members had the opportunity to play with bands such as Alcatrazz, Malice, Exciter, Mercyful Fate, Megadeth, Armored Saint, Riot, Autograph, and Icon. Doomsday for the Deceiver was the debut album by the band, which was recorded in L.A by producer Brian Slagel and engineer Bill Metoyer. The album was released on July 4, 1986.
The second album by Flotsam and Jetsam was No Place for Disgrace, released in May 1988. The album includes a cover of Elton John's hit "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." Some of the other notable records by the band are When the Storm Comes Down (1990), Unnatural Selection (1999), My God (2001), Dreams of Death (2005), The Cold (2010), Flotsam and Jetsam (2016), and The End of Chaos (2019).
Flotsam and Jetsam also released two live albums entitled Live in Phoenix (2005) and Once in a Deathtime (2008).
