Sam Shepherd is a British musician, musician, and producer specializing in electronic music. To the music industry, he goes by the name Floating Points. His birthplace is England, specifically Manchester. He also spent time in the late 2000s as a DJ at the London club Plastic People. Claude Debussy, Olivier Messiaen, and Bill Evans are just a few of Shepherd's favorite composers and musicians. In 2008, he first released music under the Floating Points name, and in 2017, he toured with The xx.
Shepherd worked with jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and The London Symphony Orchestra on the album Promises between 2019 and 2020; it was released on 26 March 2021 to widespread praise. Sanders hadn't released a substantial new album in nearly two decades; this one was the first. He worked as a producer on the tracks "BAD MODE," "Kibunja Naino (Not In The Mood)," and "Somewhere Near Marseilles" for the album Bad Mode by Japanese American singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada.
Shepherd has previously taken the stage with the Floating Points Ensemble, a 16-piece live band iteration of Floating Points. An honorary trophy for "Best BBC Radio 1 Maida Vale Session" was bestowed upon the band.
