Vladimir John Ondrasik III (January 7, 1965) is an American singer, pianist, philanthropist, record producer, and songwriter. He was born in Los Angeles, California. Ondrasik is professionally known by his stage name, Five for Fighting. His music incorporates different genres such as soft rock, Americana pop-rock, piano rock, alternative rock, and heartland rock. Grew up in a musical family, Ondrasik learned to play the piano in his early years, and in his teens, he started to learn the guitar and writing music. He was also studying in college and pursuing music in his spare time.
In 1988, Ondrasik completed his graduation from UCLA and got associated with the glam metal scene. He befriended Rudy Sarzo, the bassist of Whitesnake. They later formed a hair metal band alongside Scott St. Clair Sheets, best known for his work with Pat Benatar. The early years of Ondrasik’s career were spent playing as a singer and songwriter gigs around Los Angeles. He eventually got signed by a music publisher named Carla Berkowitz. She discovered him while he was performing in a bar on Melrose and Vine.
Ondrasik signed a record deal with EMI Records in 1995 and adopted his professional name Five for Fighting as a “band name.” In March 1997, he released his debut studio album, Message for Albert, through EMI. His other studio albums include American Town (September 26, 2000), The Battle for Everything (February 3, 2004), Two Lights (August 1, 2006), Slice (October 13, 2009), and Bookmarks (September 17, 2013).
