Fan Expo Boston Information
Once a year, Boston, Massachusetts, hosts Fan Expo Boston, formerly known as Boston Comic Con. Comic books were the initial focus of the convention. Still, over time it expanded to include media guests from the film and television industries, cosplayers, an art auction, a tabletop/CCG/RPG gaming room, and an annual costume contest. Following its 2017 acquisition by Informa as part of their Fan Expo series, the convention was rebranded as Fan Expo Boston, dropping the Comic Con moniker after 25 years.
Boston Comic Con began on March 18, 2007, as a one-day event in the Back Bay Events Center, but due to its popularity, it was expanded to two days in 2009 and then to three days in 2014. 2010 the convention was held at the Hynes Convention Center, and in 2011, it relocated to the Westin Waterfront Hotel. After being postponed in the wake of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, the annual Boston Comic Con was held in the Seaport Hotel and Seaport World Trade Center in South Boston.
The convention was sold to the London-based Informa in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 event, and it was announced that the convention would relocate to the neighboring Boston Convention & Exhibition Center beginning in 2017. Advertised as BCC's 10th-anniversary celebration in 2017, the event kicked off as "Fan Expo Boston," with the Comic-Con moniker phased out beginning in 2018.
