Evgeny Kissin is a Russian-born composer and concert pianist. He obtained the citizenship of the United Kingdom in 2002 and the State of Israel in 2013. As a kid prodigy, he first gained a worldwide reputation. His renditions of Romantic-era pieces by composers such as Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Modest Mussorgsky, and Ludwig van Beethoven have brought him great fame, though he has a vast repertoire.
The Kopelman Quartet recorded his String Quartet, Op. 3 (2016) for Nimbus Records, and the Endellion Quartet gave the piece its UK premiere on February 26, 2019. As for Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Kissin has been a vocal opponent of the move. Kissin was one of several Russian musicians who opposed the invasion in 2022. On October 14, 2022, in Amsterdam, he performed the piano trio he had created in reaction to the invasion.
The London-based Royal Academy of Music bestowed him with honorary membership in June 2005. The University of Hong Kong bestowed him with a Doctor of Letters honoris causa in March 2009. The National Academy of Music in Bulgaria bestowed him with an honorary doctorate in 2021.
