Emily King Information
Emily King (July 15, 1985) is an American singer and songwriter born in New York City. At the age of 16, King left high school and received GED. She began playing music in various venues and restaurants around New York City to pursue her musical career. King signed her first record deal with J Records in 2004 and released her debut album in August 2007 entitled “East Side Story.” The album received a Grammy nomination for the Best Contemporary R&B Album of the Year.
After releasing her debut album, King began touring with Floetry and John Legend and has opened acts for different artists, including Erykah Badu, Chaka Khan, Alicia Keys, and Nas. She left her record label in 2008 and began independent recording. She recorded an extended follow-up play entitled “Seven” in her home, released in July 2011.
Emily King opened an act for Maroon 5 in October 2011 on their Scandinavian and European tour and was invited by Emeli Sande to open for her United King tour. She was awarded the Holy Prize in 2012 from The Songwriters Hall of Fame. King released her second self-recorded album entitled “The Switch” on June 26, 2015.
Some of the Emily King’s notable singles are “Walk in My Shoes,” “Ordinary Heart,” “The Animals,” “Distance,” “Remind Me,” “Look at Me Now,” “Can’t Hold Me,” “Incredible Manage Question,” “Being Human,” and “See Me.” She released two more studio albums following The Switch, including Scenery (February 1, 2019) and Sides (January 17, 2020).
