Emily Caroline Otnes (June 28, 1994) is an American singer and songwriter who is known as Emily Blue. She is the singer in the Champaign-based indie rock band called Tara Terra. Blue was born and raised in Urbana but is currently based in Chicago. At 13, she wrote her first song, which motivated Blue to become a songwriter. Blue attended the same high school as Joey Buttlar and Colin Althaus. They all met each other in the early 2010s and began creating music together. Blue achieved local success with her Urbana-Champagne band called Emily Otnes during the beginning of her career.
On August 6, 2016, Blue released her debut single as a solo artist entitled “No Pain.” The song was released with the announcement of the debut EP for the Illinois singer and songwriter. Lyrics of her single described the rape culture daringly and poignantly; this caught considerable attention of music reviewers. On November 4, 2016, she eventually released her debut extended play entitled “Another Angry Woman.” The lyrics of the album involved subjects considered taboo.
In 2019, Emily Blue won the Chicago Reader Awards for the Best Pop Artist. This was her first-ever notable achievement that she gained after years of hard work. Most of her projects have been released under the record label Audiotree.
