Elliott Brood Information
Elliott Brood is a Canadian alternative country band. The group's current lineup consists of Stephen Pitkin, Casey Laforet, and Mark Sasso. Mark Sasso and Casey Laforet went to high school together in Windsor, and after graduation, they moved to Toronto, where they formed a band. In 2002, they had their debut performance at Toronto's Holy Joe with two other musicians.
Sasso and Laforet continued as a duet when the band's other two members left after only a handful of performances. In 2004, they recorded their debut EP with producer Stephen Pitkin under the name Tin Type. Two days were spent in Sasso's living room recording Tin Type. The band called the recording studio "The Orange Room" due to its bright orange decor.
Sasso, a graphic artist, designs the band's records; thus, when the EP came out in January 2004 on Weewerk Records, it was packaged with a handcrafted photo book depicting the American Old West in the same vein.
Although Pitkin was involved in the recording and production of Tin Type, he did not become a full band member until 2005, when they released their debut long player, Ambassador, on Six Shooter Records. Mountain Meadows, the band's second studio album, was released in 2008. Mountain Meadows was coproduced and mixed at Toronto's Green Door Studio with John Critchley.
