Doug Seegers Information
Douglas Seegers (1952) is an American country music guitarist and songwriter. He was born in Long Island, New York. Seegers moved to upstate New York after graduating from West Islip High School, getting married, and having two children. He had previously played music in New York and Austin, Texas. One day he moved to Nashville on his own, where he began performing on the streets and soon began frequenting The Little Pantry That Could, a West Nashville charity with regular songwriter nights. He was a homeless musician trying to make ends meet.
On December 17, 2012, Nashville-based American singer-songwriter and record producer Aaron Espe posted a 1-minute and 11-second live performance of Seegers performing "Going Down to the River" on his YouTube channel.
Johnson and six Swedish musicians filmed six episodes of a television series for SVT called Jills Veranda in Nashville. After the episode aired, Seegers became an overnight sensation. His Swedish Facebook page was flooded with new likes, and for 12 days, his song "Going Down to the River" topped the iTunes charts in Sweden.
