Donna the Buffalo Information
Donna the Buffalo is a band that originated from Trumansburg, New York. The group was founded in 1989, and the name was suggested as "Dawn of the Buffalo." It was an idea by a musician friend of the band but was misheard as "Donna the Buffalo." The group followers are known as The Herd. It is a self-organized "tribe" of people who found each other at live events by Donna the Buffalo. The current lineup of the band consists of Tara Nevins (vocals, acoustic guitar, fiddle, accordion, washboard, occasional backup vocals, tambourine), Jeb Puryear (electric guitar, occasional pedal steel, rare backup vocals, vocals), Mark Raudabaugh (drums), David McCracken (electric keyboard, organ), and Kyle Spark (electric bass, backing vocals). There is a long list of past members.
Donna the Buffalo is known to be one of the founding and host bands of the annual Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance as well as the Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival. It is also one of the headliners at The Great Blue Heron Music Festival in Sherman, New York. The group also got featured in On The Bus, a documentary co-directed by Dave Sale. The band has performed and recorded with a variety of musicians, including some prominent folk/roots performers as Mamadou Diabate, Claire Lynch, David Hidalgo, Jim Lauderdale, father, and son Zydeco masters Preston and Keith Frank, The Duhks and Amy Helm.
