Deniece Williams Information
Deniece Williams (June 3, 1951) is an American singer. She was born in Gary, Indiana. When Williams was a student at university, he took a job singing in a club called Casino Royal and decided he enjoyed it. "That was a ton of joy. During that time, she also worked as a ward clerk at Chicago's Mercy Hospital and for a telephone business.
Under the stage name Deniece Chandler, she released music on the companies belonging to The Toddlin' Town family. In the late '60s, Toddlin's subsidiary Lock Records issued a record called "I'm Walking Away," which has since become a classic in England's Northern Soul music scene. After briefly joining Patti Hamilton and the Lovelites in 1969, she sang lead on the recording "I'm Not Like the Others," which was not released until 1999.
As a member of "Wonderlove," she sang backup for Stevie Wonder on his recordings Talking Book, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life. Williams also made guest appearances on albums by Minnie Riperton (1974) and Roberta Flack (1975), and Stevie Wonder Presents Syreeta (1974).
In 1975, she departed Wonder and signed with Columbia Records and Kalimba Productions. Maurice White and Charles Stepney founded Kalimba, a production business. After that, Williams collaborated with White and Stepney to create her debut studio record.
