Del McCoury Band Information
American bluegrass band The Del McCoury Band won Grammys. When Jerry McCoury was the bassist, and Del McCoury was the guitarist, the group was known as Del and the Dixie Pals. Ronnie, the mandolinist, and Robbie, the banjoist, were both sons of Dempsey McCoury, and they joined the band in the 1980s, solidifying the lineup after several lineup changes. They abandoned the "Dixie Pals" moniker in 1988 and adopted the present one.
The International Bluegrass Music Awards bestowed the "Entertainer of the Year" title for the Del McCoury band in 1999. Their 2004 album It is Just the Night was nominated for a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album. Moreover, their 2006 album, The Company We Keep, took home the trophy in that category. "I Still Carry You Around" is a track from Steve Earle's 1997 album El Corazón that features the band. On his 1999 album, The Mountain, they were co-billing.
The band has shared the stage with the Lee Boys on multiple occasions recently, and their sets generally feature extended jams on various tunes while incorporating bluegrass, funk, and gospel. In live performances, guitarist Cody Kilby joins the original Del McCoury Band members—all active as of 2009—to form the branch known as The Travelin' McCourys. Concerts, including the Lee Boys and the Travelin' McCourys, are commonplace.
