Defected Information
Soulsearcher's "I Can't Get Enough" was Defected's first release in 1999, and it peaked at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. Defected was founded by former AM:PM and Cooltempo A&R man Simon Dunmore, and it was originally financed by London nightclub and label Ministry of Sound. After this initial triumph, Roger Sanchez followed up in 2001 with "Another Chance," which topped the UK Singles Chart.
In its first year, Defected released classic club songs like "To Be in Love" by Masters at Work and "Get Get Down" by Paul Johnson. This was followed by "I Feel for You" by Bob Sinclar and "Finally" by Kings of Tomorrow featuring Julie McKnight.
Late in 2016, Defected released their 500th album, which features songs by artists such as Bob Sinclar, Kings of Tomorrow, Masters at Work, Inner City, Dennis Ferrer, Lenny Fontana, Roy Davis Jr., DJ Gregory, Mr. G, Marc Kinchen (MK), and more recently Franky Rizardo, Purple Disco Machine, Amine Edge & Dance, and Peggy Gou.
Defected began the new year with a flurry of special events and announcements commemorating the label's 20th anniversary and "everything there is to love about house music." The first Essential Mix of 2019 was Simon Dunmore's special Influences Essential Mix, aired on BBC Radio 1 on Friday, January 4th.
