David Wilcox Information
David Karl William Wilcox (July 13, 1949) is a Canadian rock musician who was born in Montreal, Quebec. Elvis Presley was a childhood musical inspiration for Wilcox, who has drawn his interest in music since he was six. Wilcox gave his first-ever performance at the age of fourteen. In his career, Wilcox has worked with different record labels, including Stony Plain, Warner Music Canada, and Capitol.
Wilcox replaced Amos Garrett in a band owned by Ian, and Sylvia Tyson called “Great Speckled Bird” in 1970. He played backup for acts in the band, including Charlie Rich, Carl Perkins, and Anne Murray. Wilcox left the Great Speckled Bird and went solo in 1973, releasing his debut solo album entitled “Out of the Woods” in 1977. The album had three top hits, including “That Hypnotizin’ Boogie,” “Bad Apple,” and “Do the Bearcat.”
Wilcox released his second studio album in 1983 entitled “My Eyes Keep Me in Trouble.” The album featured “Riverboat Fantasy” and “Downtown Came Uptown.” He got further motivation after receiving two gold records and his successful tour.
In 1985, Wilcox was honored with the COCA (the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities) for the Entertainer of the Year award. His notable studio albums as a solo artist include Bad Reputation (1984), Breakfast at the Circus (1987), The Natural Edge (1989), Thirteen Songs (1996), Rhythm of Love (2000), Boy in the Boat (2007), and Guitar Heroes (2015).
