David Ryan Harris Information
David Ryan Harris (April 19, 1968) is an American singer-songwriter born in Evanston, Illinois, and based in Los Angeles, California. Harris moved to Atlanta at a very young age and had a varied career as a musician. His musical influences are sighted to be Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and Prince, and his music is classified as folk, rhythm, and blues.
Harris began his career in the 1980s by performing on stage, where he served as a frontman for the Atlanta rock group Follow for Now. The band was given a record deal through Chrysalis Records through which it released their self-titled album in 1991. Harris, along with the group, toured with acts including Pearl Jam, Faith No More, Fishbone, and 24-7 Spyz. Harris parted his way from the group in 1994 and began with his solo career.
Prior to working as a solo artist, Harris began to work as a producer and featured guitarist with Dionne Farris, who was a former vocalist from hip-hop group Arrested Development. The guitar work by Harris can be heard throughout Farris' 1995 album entitled Wild Seed, Wild Flower. When Harris launched his solo career in 1997, he reunited with Brendan O'Brien. The two got signed to Columbia Records and produced Harris' solo debut.
Later, Harris created the trio Brand New Immortals and released a successful six-track EP. The trio produced Tragic Show, which was a full-length album. As a solo artist, Harris performed on stage with many artists, including Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Sister Hazel, Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul, and Santana. He also played on the Rock Boat music festival from 2002 to 2009.
