Danny Barnes (December 21, 1961) is an American banjo player, composer, and singer. He was born in Temple, Texas, and raised in Belton. He began taking an interest in music at a very young age. After seeing his grandpa Jones and Stringbean in concert while playing the banjo, Barnes started to develop an interest in the banjo at ten years old. His early influences were John Hartford and Hee Haw. Barnes attended the University of Texas and completed his graduation with a degree in audio production in 1985.
Barnes was living in Austin in 1990 when he formed Bad Livers with fiddler Ralph White and bassist Mark Rubin. The band released its debut album in 1992 entitled “Delusions of Banjer,” produced by Paul Leary. With Bad Livers, Barnes released many other studio albums. The notable albums included Blood and Mood (2000), Ridgetop Sessions (2000), Dust on the Bible reissue (1999), Industry and Thrift (1998), Hogs on the Highway (1997), Horses in the Mines (1994), The Golden Years (1992), Lust for Life (1991), and Dust on the Bible (1991).
After living in different cities around the United States, Barnes eventually settled in Washington. While he was living there, Barnes recorded several solo albums and self-released nearly all of them. His hit solo albums are as follows: Oft Mended Raiment (1999), Minor Dings (2000), Dirt on the Angel (2003), Livin’ Large in a Little Bitty Room – Live! (2004)Get Myself Together (2005), and Barnyard Electronics (2007).
