Daniel Romano Information
Daniel Tavis Romano (1985) is a Canadian visual artist, poet, and musician. He was born in Welland, Ontario. Though he is best recognized for his solo work, he has also recorded with Julie Doiron and Frederick Squire and is a member of the band Attack in Black. Dallas Green's musical side project, City and Colour, has him as a producer and performer. With Steve Lambke of the Constantines, Romano runs the indie record company You've Changed Records.
Designs for M. Ward, Ben Kweller, Ladyhawk, and City and Colour are just a few examples of his impressive work. He is an accomplished leatherworker who has made guitar straps for several of his colleagues (Kathleen Edwards, Bahamas, Travis Good of the Sadies). Come Cry With Me, Romano's 2013 album, was longlisted for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize, following in the footsteps of 2011's Sleep Beneath the Willow, which was also nominated for the Polaris Music Prize.
According to Canadian music publication Exclaim!, Romano's work can be broken down into five distinct genres: a soft, rustic folk sound, as heard on albums like Daniel, Fred & Julie and Workin' for the Music Man; a retro country style, as heard on Sleep Beneath the Willow and If I've Only One Time Askin'; a straight-ahead rock sound, as heard on Nerveless and How Ill Thy World Is Ordered.
