Dana Cooper Information
Dana Cooper (1951) is an American singer and songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri. He developed his interest in music from a young age and began singing, playing drums, guitar, and harmonica. Cooper started to write his songs at 13, and by the age of 16, he was regularly performing at the Sign Coffeehouse and Vanguard Coffeehouse in Kansas City. Cooper only attended college for a year and dropped out to pursue a music career, despite being awarded several scholarships.
In the early 1970s, Cooper moved to Los Angeles and began to work on his debut album. He released a self-titled debut album in 1973 via Elektra Records. Soon he relocated to Houston and began writing, performing, and recording with his friend Russell. The two of them founded the Shake Russell/Dana Cooper Band and released three albums in 5 years. The band split in the 1980s, and Cooper started his power trio, DC3. He released the indie single “Give Us the Money,” the Perpetual Man cassette, and an eponymous self-produced cassette under the band.
As a solo artist, Cooper released the solo CD entitled Stone By Stone in 1992. It was followed by Miracle Mile, Harry Truman Built a Road, Made of Mud, The Conjurer, Road Show, Building a Human Being, and Incendiary Kid. His notable collaborations include Songs on the Radio, The Shake Russell - Dana Cooper Band, Comin’ Home, and Love’s Bright Campaign.
